5 hours tour to Rhodes' old Town and Lindos
RHODES & LINDOS HALF DAY CONDENSED TOUR
Duration: +/- 5 hours
After meeting your professionally trained guide at the port , you will depart Rhodes Town and drive along the east coast of the island passing some of the island's most beautiful beaches. You will drive through several small villages before arriving at Lindos, one of the three ancient cities on the island of Rhodes. Lindos is among the island's most famous villages, and is renowned for its famous Acropolis. At a height of 535 feet, the Acropolis offers breathtaking views and photo opportunities of the entire village, including its Medieval castle, superb sandy beaches and charming whitewashed, sugar-cubed houses. During your visit, you will take a walking tour through the labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets, and past the colorful courtyards and mosaics for which Lindos is famous. Ancient Lindos was the most important town on the island, and has been inhabited for 5,000 years. The Acropolis is home to the ruins of a Byzantine fort and a Greek temple from centuries before. You can also glimpse the Bay of St Paul from the very top of the Acropolis. It is said he washed ashore here during a storm and brought Christianity to the island. You will then drive along the walls of the Old Town to reach the top of the city at the Gate d’Amboise. From here, you will begin your walking tour of the Old Town. Upon entering the first thing you will see are the outer walls of the imposing Palace of the Grand Masters. Returning back to the Street of the Knights which runs from in front of the palace down to the Knight's hospital, you will begin a walk down this charming cobblestone street as your guide points out the facades of what used to be the Inns of the Knights. Today, they are shops, private residences and even a small university. Your guide will point out the Knight's hospital, now a very interesting Archaeological Museum. You will then be given some free time to explore on your own, find an ice cream or visit the archeological museum on your own. After the tour you will be transferred back to the hotel,.
